Location: Windhoek or Walvis Bay, Namibia. Pascale Paulsmeier, Industrial Psychologist, has been exclusively retained to manage this confidential executive search on behalf of an established international organisation with long-term strategic interests in Namibia.

Position Summary

The Managing Director will provide strategic leadership and executive oversight for the organisation's activities in Namibia and the broader Sub-Saharan African region.

The successful candidate will be responsible for representing the organisation at the highest level, driving sustainable business growth, strengthening strategic partnerships, ensuring sound corporate governance and regulatory compliance, and leading the successful execution of the organisation's strategic objectives across its areas of operation.

Working closely with the international executive leadership team, the Managing Director will serve as the primary representative of the organisation in Namibia and play a key role in identifying new business opportunities, fostering stakeholder relationships and supporting long-term organisational growth.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Strategic Leadership

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the organisation's operations in Namibia.
  • Represent the organisation in executive, governmental and stakeholder engagements.
  • Promote the organisation's vision, values and long-term strategic objectives.
  • Ensure alignment between local operations and international business priorities.

Business Development

  • Identify, evaluate and pursue new business and investment opportunities.
  • Develop strategic partnerships that support sustainable organisational growth.
  • Lead market development initiatives and identify emerging commercial opportunities.

Government & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with government, regulators, public institutions and key industry stakeholders.
  • Represent the organisation in high-level discussions and negotiations.
  • Promote constructive partnerships that support long-term strategic objectives.

Governance, Compliance & Risk

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote sound corporate governance and effective risk management practices.
  • Support regulatory approval and permitting processes where required.

Leadership & Organisational Performance

  • Lead and develop a high-performing local team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure effective operational performance and responsible resource management.
  • Provide strategic guidance and support to local management.

Reporting

  • Maintain effective communication with the international executive leadership team.
  • Provide regular reporting on business performance, strategic initiatives, stakeholder developments and organisational risks.

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification, preferably an MBA or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 15 years' progressive management experience, including substantial executive leadership experience.
  • A proven track record in strategic leadership, business development and organisational growth.
  • Demonstrated success in developing strategic partnerships and engaging with senior stakeholders.
  • Experience working with government authorities, regulators and public institutions.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen.
  • International business experience will be advantageous.
